Raising money for three worthy causes, we shall be cycling from our twin town of Malle in Belgium to Hartley Wintney in 4 days.
St John’s Church, Hartley Wintney is organising a charity cycle ride over the August Bank Holiday (22nd-26th) 2013. We are a team of 35 enthusiasts who have come together from various corners of the village - and beyond! We depart by coach on Thursday 22nd, to start from our twin town of Malle, north east of Antwerp in Belgium and then we will cycle the 300 miles back to Hartley Wintney. Please sponsor a cyclist here!
The inspiration for the ride goes back to September 2010 when we organised what turned out to be a hugely successful bike ride from Hartley Wintney to Paris. 44 cyclists took part and raised nearly £50,000 towards the St John’s Parish Centre in Hartley Wintney. The ride provided a fantastic challenge to those who took part. Encouraged by our team of experts, even those who had never undertaken anything like this before had an incredible time, both training for the ride and doing the ride itself. Many people who sadly missed out on our first ride or indeed had such a good time doing it have asked our now experienced team to organise another ride. So, once again, many from Hartley Wintney village and even some from our twin town Malle will get on their bikes for this, our next challenge.
This is a fundraising event, raising money for our St John’s Church Centre. We are also donating 20% of the total raised to two very special local charities, namely St Michael’s Hospice, Basingstoke, which cares for terminally ill patients across North Hampshire, and The Matthew Elvidge Trust, committed to raising awareness of depression in young adults, working with charities and universities across UK. Read about the charities here.
Each team member has paid £250 to enter the event and has pledged to raise a minimum of £500 in sponsorship. Please visit the various pages on the site, and for the latest reports and articles, visit the blog. You can also join the Facebook Group Malle to Hartley Wintney Bike Ride 2013.
